Keep the good work guys!
Listening to these guys talk on the podcast, I have to wonder if they have ever in fact done martial arts or athletics. The idea of energy flowing through the body is also a lot of crap. He says “literally”, but what does he mean by that? There is no energy source literally flowing through our body, there is no chi. There is the circulatory system, if that is what they are referring to?
Elite athletes are elite athletes because of thousands of hours of dedicated practice, not because of some kind of flow or way of being. Perhaps, they occupy some higher physical state compared to a normal person, but I don’t know how this is analogous to a business man, such as Richard Branson.
No doubt these guys are good with woman and probably a 1000 times more socially skilled than me, but such airy fairy examples did not personally help me understand the concepts they were trying to explain.
I’ve just tried the technique of calmly asking for stuff. Spoke to my credit card company about the late charges and I got a refund of £24. so good
Hey Gdog,
Maybe I can better address the comment Brian made during the interview you are talking about. What he mean by “energy flowing through the body” is basically this: When athletes are at the peak of their game, they do not have to think about their execution, they are operating from a feeling or flow state. Another example: If Kobe pulls up for a 3-pointer and starts to think about the mechanics of wrist when he releases the ball, he’s way more likely to miss. That analogy can be applied to meeting women. In other words, if you can get out of your head and stop analyzing while meeting women, you will improve.
Great podcast guys, after interning and reviewing the inner confidence I’m finally getting to a point where this is becoming true. Danny Pule that is how it works… I got 2 over draft fees reimbursed last week. Inner confidence is getting to know who you are, and understanding how you react with people on a daily basis and understanding their reaction toward you; for me it’s about curiosity. The more you understand your body language and understand how other people react to the way you present yourself and understanding these interaction is the key. At the end of the day it’s about expressing yourself and learning how to be comfortable in situations while keeping your head on your shoulders and pushing through. You need to get comfortable in your own skin. It’s about making minor adjustments everyday to become the person you want to be. It’s about being passionate in your own life. If you’re not passionate about the things you do. You have nothing. Just go for it.
I can sort of understand why some people might flinch when they hear words like “energy” and “flow”, it does sound a little flowery and new age-y. I suck at sports and I’ve never done any martial arts training, but I get exactly what’s meant by being in a flow state. As a musician (I’m a drummer) this is exactly the state I want to be in when I’m on stage. I’m perfectly calm, I’m not thinking about what I’m doing, it’s just happening, I’m in the moment, in the zone. If I start thinking about what I’m doing, that’s when I lose the groove, drop a stick, miss a cymbal. It used to be that playing drums was the only way for me to get into this state. I lived in my head otherwise, and despite having many friends I pretty much always had self-confidence problems and was socially inept, a wallflower. But at some point I realised that I didn’t have to sit behind a drum kit to be “in the zone”, that if I just stopped analysing every little thing and let go and allowed myself to be in the moment, things would just happen. I would find myself engaging in witty banter with perfect strangers, clever things would just come out of my mouth, I was charismatic all of a sudden. The way I see it, when you silence your conscious mind, your much smarter unconscious mind takes over and that’s when the magic happens. It’s like you’re very relaxed but simultaneously very focused, it’s a great feeling. You bet your sweet ass Richard Branson feels like that, probably all the time, that’s why he’s Richard Branson.
I would have to disagree that there is no chi…I believe it will soon be common knowledge as it has been in the traditions of Ayurveda (in which it is referred to as prana) and Chinese medicine. There have been scientific studies, like this one: http://www.journals.elsevierhealth.com/periodical… that suggest measurable energy channels do exist in our bodies. Besides that, actually feeling the energy for yourself provides perhaps the best evidence.
I like the episode but I did disagree with the routines not working. I don't use routines unless I need to move in quick but they do help out if you have them calibrated. Then if you go out enough and get into enough sets you'll be better at improvising and guiding them into free flow conversations
That's it! Tension! The magic pill
