There is a secret to making women laugh that not many guys realize.
I’m going to share it with you because a lot of guys ask me “how do I know if she’s interested in me?” The secret to laughter explains a lot about her interest in you.
The secret is so powerful that it will change the way you think about your interactions with women.
A recent New York Times article on the subject of laughter exposed it all.
A scientist named Robert Provine performed some experiments on laughter to find out what causes it, and understand why people do it. He discovered something bizarre. Instead of finding out that people laugh at things that are really funny or surprising, Provine observed that almost 90 percent of laughter happens immediately following ‘unfunny’ sentences….like “I know” or “see you later.”
Provine’s research also showed that laughter is VERY DIFFICULT TO CONVINCINGLY FAKE and that it is INVOLUNTARY.
He then got together with a neuroscientist from WSU, Jaak Panksepp, and they studied the way MONKIES laugh.
…..Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting that you start hooking up with Magilla. I’ll bring this all back to women in a second.
What they learned together is that primates enjoy tickling each other. They sometimes actually use the ‘tickling’ gesture (wiggling their fingers in the air in the direction of a strange monkey) to ‘break the ice’ and show that they are READY TO ENGAGE IN FRIENDLY (as opposed to hostile) INTERACTION.
Interesting. So laughter is not so much caused by comedic situations/ideas as it is caused by an animal’s desire to communicate friendliness and get along.
This changes the way you think about what a woman is telling you when she laughs at your jokes, doesn’t it?
Then another scientist at Florida State University performed the most fascinating study of all. The study revolves around a very unfunny joke. It goes like this:
“So there are these two muffins baking in an oven. One of them yells, “Wow, it’s hot in here!”
And the other muffin replies: “Holy cow! A talking muffin!”
Test subjects were shown a video of someone telling this joke. Sometimes the subject was told that the joke teller would be their boss on an upcoming project, others were told that the joker would be an employee of theirs. The results were dramatically different.
When a subject believed that the joker was their BOSS, they would almost always LAUGH at the joke. When the subject was told that the joker was their EMPLOYEE, they would rarely laugh at the joke.
What does this mean to you? It means several things that can make or break your interaction with women.
When you are interacting with a woman and you notice her laugh, it does not ONLY mean she thinks you did something funny. It also means SHE IS COMMUNICATING A LITTLE BIT OF INTEREST IN YOU. It also means that she is giving you a certain amount of STATUS or that you have demonstrated VALUE to her.
“So what?” you say? “I already knew that!” you say?
A lot of guys know that if they can make a woman laugh, she will like them a little.
These experiments turn that method on its ear. Instead of trying to make women laugh to get them interested, you can simply approach several women and LOOK FOR THE ONE WHO LAUGHS AROUND YOU to know who is already interested in you.
Try busting into a group of girls and say ANYTHING. Come up with your own, or try:
“Oh man – I need a woman’s opinion on something – my buddy and I were just talking about the first time we made out with a girl. Mine was in Jr. High. At one point she said “I’m so turned on, if you don’t stop, we’re going to have to go all the way!” So I stopped……? what should I have done? Did she want to go on??”
Then watch their reaction. Notice if any, or all are laughing.
Now you know what her laughter is telling you. She thinks you’re funny AND she likes you.
